Taiwan is home to an estimated 10 suppliers of car emergency kits. Most of them are specialists in the hardware industry.

Production is concentrated in the central part of the island, particularly Taichung and Changhua. A number of makers also established factories in mainland China to reduce operating costs.

Companies usually manufacture the repair and maintenance tool components, and assemble and pack the kits in-house.

Other items such as road markers, safety gear and back-up supplies are commonly outsourced.

More than half of Taiwan's output in the line is exported, primarily to the midrange and high-end DIY segments. Some companies also market their products as gifts and premiums.

The US absorbs the majority of shipments from the island. Other key destinations are Europe and the Middle East.

Suppliers obtain CE and RoHS certification for certain kit components, including tire pressure gauges and booster cables.

Taiwan-made car emergency kits are also tested against SGS standards.

A specialist in automotive tools, Accomate exports CE-certified and RoHS-compliant car emergency kits to Asia, the EU and North America. Shipments are mostly on an OEM basis, with Wal-Mart among the major clients.

Production is done in two factories, one in Taiwan and the other in Jiangsu province, mainland China. The plants house imprinting and blister packing machines.

With two R&D specialists, the company releases three designs each year. Sampling takes 10 to 20 days.
